Signature Bindery was established in 1995 in Lincoln, Nebraska. Kevin Oliver, its owner and head bookbinder, learned the craft from English binder Daphne “Pip” Beaumont-Wright in Stratton, Cornwall in Britain’s beautiful West Country. Pip taught very traditional hand bookbinding and demanded only the highest quality work from her students.
Kevin returned to the United States with one primary directive from his tutor: “Start binding and let the books be your next teachers, for all of them will teach you something.”
Signature Bindery specializes in restoration and period binding of old and rare books, with a special emphasis on those from the 15th – 18th centuries. Over the last 20 years, we have been able to acquire a large collection of decorative tools, binding equipment and supplies.
In addition to fine bindery work, Signature Bindery also offers an array of classes and workshops to pique the interests of those students of bookbinding, from amateur hobbyists to professional binders.
